Abstract

Six is a sculpture shaped by my years of piano practice and the moment those efforts finally broke into sound. A hand ripping through the piano, frozen in the form of the Chinese character “六” (six). Its sound “liu” echoes “niu,” a cry of awe. The work is a reminder that resistance, no matter how heavy, will always break away to resilience.

Story

Playing piano often felt like a swamp I had to carefully drag myself through. But Six is not about drowning. It is about the instant when persistence prevails, silence cracks, and the swamp leads to a pristine river ahead. The broken keys and dripping paint symbolize the feeling of breaking through the sweat, tears, and nights of self-doubt.

Process

I sculpted the fractured piano in Nomad, carefully modeling the hand after my own in the form of “六”. After printing with stereolithography, I finished the piece in shades of black and grey to capture the weight of struggle, as well as the light of release.
